What is AME?

The Advancing Math Education program is a three-year, federally funded grant offering professional development opportunities to mathematics teachers in Southwest Colorado. The is being coordinated by Fort Lewis College with FLC faculty providing most of the services.

What professional development is offered?

The program will offer four strands of professional development including: a mentorship program, two types of training related to the Connected Mathematics Project, a summer institute, and a college-level math course for educators. This site will continue to be updated as dates and places are determined. Check back often and join the mailing list.

What's happening in the upcoming year?

Monday, October 6 - Math Educators Banquet - Join your colleagues in Southwest Colorado for a fun evening to celebrate the start of a new school year. Share last year’s accomplishments, look at ideas and goals for the coming year, and make or renew connections with your colleagues

Saturday, April 18, 2009 - Spring Conference at Fort Lewis College - This one-day conference includes workshops by area educators. Mark your calendars and watch for a call for presenters. We know you all have great ideas that you have developed that would be great to share with your colleagues.

June 2009 (Exact dates TBD) - Summer Institute - A four-day institute for teachers, paraprofessionals and other support staff at all grade levels. More than 70 math educators from the region came away from the 2008 Institute inspired and excited about teaching math. Lew Romagnano from Metropolitan State College of Denver will again lead the instructional team which also includes Fort Lewis College instructors Pamela Smith, Leslie Goldstein and Amy Getz.

We will also be offering a college-level math course during Summer 2009 and have ongoing professional development to support the middle school Connected Mathematics Project curriculum.
